Letter Card


From Cunard's R.M.S. Queen Elizabeth  - a 'letter card' with picture of the famous Turner portrait of the great lady of the sea on the front.  The back side is for addressing, and it opens for the message area, where you see "Cunard Line - R.M.S.Queen Ellizabeth" in script.  In very decent shape, with little yellowing from age, although some is evident, particularly in the glue edges,where one would 'lick and seal.'  the only identiriers are the words Printed in England on the front, and 2/748 on the back.

The original Queen Elizabeth was completed in 1938, at which time whe was the largest Ocean Liner ever built.  Hir claim to that title was not eclipsed for over 50 years. In the early 1940's, she ferried WWII troops, and sailed on her first actual cruise in 1946.   this most famous of ocean liners capsized in Hong Kong Harbor in 1972, during a re furbishment project that had renamed her Seawise Univeristy, in preparation for a new life as a floating school, which, sadly, never began.
