Cunard White Star
R.M.S. Queen Mary
Guide to Accommodation
1936-1950
Rare piece of memorabilia from Cunard White Star Line, this RMS Queen Mary Guide to Accommodation (Cabin Class) would have been used sometime between 1936 (wen the Queen Mary was launched) and 1950 (After which the White Star name was no longer used.) It's a very complete 24 pages long, and the wide array of information includes deck descriptions; pricing for services from deck chair rental to permanent waves to valet service; how to identify an officer's rank by their badges; descriptions of principal works of art; faccts about the ship, and more. NOT in excellent condition, but still pretty nice... yellowing from age, some softening of cover corners are evident, and there is the residue of a sticker on the front cover. It's still an incredible piece, with a wealth of information about the ship, providing a flavor of what it was like to sail on theis great ocean liner.
Size: 7" high x 4.75" wide (closed)
The Cunard and White Star lines meerged to form Cunard-White Star Limited. In 1947, Cunard bought out White Star's third of the business, and White Star was dropped from the name in 1950. The R.M.S.(Royal Mail Ship) Queen Mary was built for Cunar-White Star andmade her first express crossing of the Atlalntic in 1936. She is distinguishesd as a holder of the Blue Riband, for breaking the existing frcord forthe fastest westbound Atlantic crossing in both 1936and 1938, susrpasses only by the SS United States. She sailed for Cunard until 1967, and today is docked in Long Beach, as a hotel ship and museum.
